Xue) The identification of unintended effects resulting from genetic modification processes is an important but difficult aspect of evaluations of the biosafety of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Non-targeted techniques offer considerable potential for improving the detection of unintended effects of genetic modification in crop plants. In this study, total seed protein expression patterns of two strains of transgenic rice (Bt rice and PEPC rice) were examined using a comparative proteomics approach with two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE), and differences determined comparing to each line’s non GM counterpart. The results indicated that some of the seed proteins from the two transgenic rice lines differed in their relative intensities. Twenty eight proteins were successfully identified with MALDI-TOF-MS, five of which were well-characterized and these were discussed. In summary, transgenic rice were found to differ in their protein contents from their non-GM counterparts, which might raise concerns regarding their potential risks for human health and ecology. 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Mitochondrial comparative proteomic analysis of sterile line and its maintain line of purple cytoplasmic rice (Oryza sativa)

CMS/Rf systems in rice (Oryza sativa) have long been exploited for hybrid breeding to enhance productivity. Ying xiang CMS/Rf system is a new type. In this study, a mitochondrial comparative proteomic analysis of Ying xiang Sterile Line and its Maintain Line was started for a comprehensive investigation of the mitochondrial proteins’ functions in rice cytoplasmic male sterility. Mitochondria we...

Analysis of the differential gene and protein expression profile of the rolled leaf mutant of transgenic rice (Oryza sativa L.)

The importance of leaf rolling in rice (Oryza sativa L.) has been widely recognized. Although several studies have investigated rice leaf rolling and identified some related genes, knowledge of the molecular mechanism underlying rice leaf rolling, especially outward leaf rolling, is limited. Therefore, in this study, differential proteomics and gene expression profiling were used to analyze rol...

Production of Marker-free Transgenic Rice (Oryza sativa L.) with Improved Nutritive Quality Expressing AmA1

Background: Rice seed proteins are lacking essential amino acids (EAAs). Genetic engineering off ers a fast and sustainable method to solve this problem as it allows the specifi c expression of heterologous EAA-rich proteins. The use of selectable marker gene is essential for generation of transgenic crops, but might also lead to potential environmental and food safety problems...

Concentration of cadmium, arsenic, and lead in rice (Oryza sativa) and probabilistic health risk assessment: A case study in Hormozgan province, Iran

Background: The presence of toxic heavy metals in cereal grains like rice is one of the main human and environmental health concerns. Their importance is because of their non-biodegradability nature, high half-time, and bioaccumulation ability in the human body. Among heavy metals, cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and arsenic (As) are most critical, so their concentrations in rice were evaluated in thi...

Overexpression of the rFCA RNA recognition motif affects morphologies modifications in rice (Oryza sativa L.).

RNA recognition motifs as important regulators of gene expression are highly conserved in animals and plants. The FCA floral promotion gene in Arabidopsis encodes a protein, containing two RNA recognition motifs (RRM) and a WW protein interaction domain. Here we isolated FCA cDNA from rice. FCA in rice (rFCA) was homologous to FCA-gamma of Arabidopsis and contained conserved domains. To investi...
